gary bettman is a pukeface panzy waister. buttplug has ruined the nhl the game is so antiseptic theres more hitting in the game of tennis then there is at a nhl game the rivalries are not the same we need more physical play more hitting more fighting and that will lead to more scoring gary bettman is an embarassment remember gary bettman approved john spano to buy the islanders? the guy didnt have assets to buy the team that alone should of terminated his contract nhl owners get smart, at least james dolan is one owner that wants to get rid of bettman now we have to work on the other 29

I hope somebody pushes Bettmans worthless ass into traffic. I’m gonna laugh when I hear a story about some angry Rangers fan dragging him the Jimmy Hoffa treatment. If we end up with an NHL franchise here in Vegas, I hope Bettman’s body is poured into the foundation.

Seriously, the guy even looks like a prick!!!!

Now it’s time for this site to turn up the heat. After what’s been going on in Nashville, serious questions HAVE to be raised about Dictator Bettman and his shady office.

You guys have done a great job in highlighting the ridiculousness of Bettman going after MSG - now it’s time to show how crooked this S.O.B. is.

I have been scratching my head because of this realignment idea and I thought; How about instead of reduction of teams how about expansion to give life to the league. The return of some old favorites like Winnipeg and Quebec and the introduction of Hamilton (CAN) and Seattle. The last one may have people in a spin, but after the Supersonics left for a southern state, this leaves hockey with no competition at that time of the year. Seattle has had success in Junior leagues and to me sounds like a hockey may have success there. This will mean some change in the divisions. They are as follows:

EAST

ATLANTIC

NYI, NYR, NJ, PHI, PIT, WSH

NORTHEAST

BOS, BUF, MTL, OTW, TOR, QUEBEC (a few Canadian teams)

SOUTHEAST

ATL, CAR, CBJ, Fl, TB

WEST

CENTRAL

DET, CHI, DAL,MIN, WINNIPEG, HAMILTON

NORTHWEST

CGY, COL, EDM, VAN, SJ, SEATTLE

PACIFIC

ANA, PHX, NAS, STL, LA

The Southern teams will have play each other more. CBJ I feel it fits well into that division, sorry to CBJ fans if you are not a fan of this, I reckon you would make the playoffs in this division this year.

Since I want to return to the old naming system, the old names return, and the Pacific is now known as the Taylor division after the LA King great Dave Taylor and the Southeastern division should be named the Francis division after the Hartford and Carolina great Ron Francis. Add some suggestions

If Bettman DOES NOT get fired, announces his resignation, is not going on trial for fraud (i.e. rejecting Jim Balsillie for another fraud nicknamed “Boots”… the evidence is on the Hockey Night In Canada interview before game 4 of the Cup Finals GARY) or Bettman receives a contract extension from the board of governors when his current term expires, then the NHL will eventually go out of business because Mr. All-Time worst commissioner in the history of sports has done nothing to improve the NHL and hockey except for ruining the game in his 15 year tenure as commissioner which had better come to an end soon, not 6 months later.

ugh, its always the same with that guy. he does everything he can to keep teams in cities that dont even want them, he’s even willing to sell to bankrupt crooks who cant even pay the rent instead of admitting he made a mistake. keeps pretending that tampa and florida are “doing very well” LOL, they made less than 20 MIL at the gates last year and the salary FLOOR is twice that. then he turns around and takes the big teams on, sues the Rangers and asks his refs to do everything they can to give the cup to his beloved posterboy Cindy Crosbaby and take it away from the real best team. How long until he has no more support at all??

Thanks and very much appreciate your response.
I’m grateful that there is another voice of reason out there who sees the defense as a major part of the game and not merely as window dressing.

Although I am certainly happy for Nicklas Lidstrom on his repeated Noris trophy win, I wish the league would stop looking at who is scoring points and look at who is playing the very best defensively in support of their team- regardless of what the standings reflect.

You are spot on with the Iginla and Drury analogy. These players, along with newbies like Mike Richards, have not forgotten that champions are made by blood, sweat, and tears and not by media style over substance.

Hockey lore in the future will not reflect great credit and appreciation to Bettman for his misguided measures taken to “improve the offense and thereby generate revenue”. I’m glad some of us recognize the fallacy of the approach- it’s like a sad, creaking house shored up with a coat of fresh paint.

You mentioned some great examples of players who are very defensively sound (the Jay McKee’s, the Chris Chelios’, the Scott Stevens prototypes, et al) and other examples of those who are, in my opinion, too offensive-minded (the Brian Campbell’s, the Paul Coffeys, and the Mike Greens). Too bad the current generation on defense is having to re-learn strategy and tactics due to the inability by regulation to be fundamentally sound in their own zone. Lots of Blue-line power play heroes and not enough bull work on “D”.

Lidstrom, to his credit, seems to be able to adopt to both sides of the game, but it sure is easier when you have had the luxury of Hall-of-Fame level offensive support throughout one’s career. I take nothing from him, just wonder where he would be today if he was a New Jersey Devil all these years instead.

So, my new-found hockey friend, a toast to keeping defense as much a part of today’s game as it was 25-50 years ago! Be well and safe!

Bettman’s trying with all his might to destroy hockey as it should be played by essentially artificially increasing scoring that should not exist. Crosby dives and whines too much and he is the player the league is marketing as the perfect player. Push players like Iginla, Chris Drury, and the like who are warriors, good in both ends, and still can score. Before long we’ll end up with a game that is a grotesque caricature of what hockey once was. Superstars who are true superstars should be rewarded, but superstars should not be created by inflated, artificial scoring. Greatness is earned, not bestowed. Gretzky, Lemiuex, Howe, Messier, Plante, Sawchuck, both Espositos, these players earned their reputations. Crosby was given the title of the “Next One” by league marketing executives although he has done nothing to truly deserve it yet.

As a defensive defenseman myself, I totally agree with you. Too much importance is placed on goals per game totals and not enough on the quality of the actual play. Why can a great defensive play or a great save not be celebrated just as much as a goal? The defensive instincts and the toughness are being phased out of the game. Take Brian Campbell, for example. He’s essentially a fourth forward on the ice but he is valued far more than a true warrior like Jay McKee. I disagree strongly with the direction Bettman is taking the sport as a whole. All the leagues down to the youngest kids imitate to considerable extent the NHL’s rules and style.

I agree with many of your points and I feel that you and I could probably go on and on with this topic but it’s getting kind of late and I have to wake up early tomorrow.
