As many of you know, Jim Balsillie has a web site to promote his iniative to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and move them to Hamilton, Ontario… the site is http://www.makeitseven.ca. Jim and his team there send out email messages a few times a week, which we will start posting here on FB… because we support his mission! Here is the email sent out today by MakeItSeven:
To all our Make It Seven Supporters,
Tell it to the Judge!
We need everyone who supports an NHL franchise in Hamilton to let the Phoenix bankruptcy court Judge know. And it’s easy to do.
Tuesday June 9 is a critical court hearing to determine whether the Coyotes can be relocated when they’re sold out of bankruptcy.
We need some evidence for the Judge - evidence of bigger, stronger and deeper numbers of Hamilton backers.
We need you to use our “Tell a Friend” feature to get your neighbours, co-workers, family and friends to sign up to Makeitseven.ca.
Do it today. Do it now. We need to pull together. We need to tell it to the Judge.
Make It Seven.
In other very related news, a Toronto investment group - The Toronto Legacy Group - has put forth a proposal/bid for another NHL team in Toronto. The group says they already have around $900 million in financing available, and want to name the team the Toronto Legacy. We’re wondering if this is a joke…. but we guess if Los Angeles can “support” two teams, Toronto shouldn’t have a problem. However, we’d rather see the next team in Hamilton, or another city in Canada.

Go Jim Go! I must say, the conspiratorial side of me has no doubt this Toronto Legacy group are more of Gary’s ‘new best friends’ he just met…Just the way they flaunted the $900 million number around…as if Gary’s saying to his Board of Govs, “hey boys, forget the Balsillie offer, look at all this money over here!!”. The point being, if he fractures the support of Canadians (Hamilton vs Toronto), then the prospect of moving a team to Canada becomes that much weaker.
Anyway, just a conspiracy, I’m not sure Bettman is that smart anyways, and these guys may be legit, only time will tell.
On the other hand, maybe Bettman is pissed now that another Canadian group has come forward during the Stanley Cup playoffs, and is taking more attention away from his precious Stanley Cup Final.
Anyway, now that an actual group has come forward, I think a 2nd team in Toronto is ridiculous. There’s enough people, but it just seems like blasphemy or something…two T.O. teams?! Say it out loud and try not to laugh! Just move the ‘yotes back to the ‘peg, and the Thrashers (or whomever’s next) to Quebec, and we’ll call it even.
Bettman must be stopped…he has no honour, and no value as a commissioner. Everything he says is a lie to his Board of Govs, or a spin to placate Canadians, cause he knows he can’t survive without our support. I await his letter of resignation.
Why does two in Toronto sound ridiculous? There are two in Los Angeles (Anaheim is basically and L.A suburb), 3 in New York, the league started with two in Montreal and had two there until the end of the 30’s. Two in Toronto makes more sense than two in Florida. I think Bettman is worried about a domino effect, if Phoenix moves to where it can make money, the salary cap goes up, and the rest of his failed southern experiment goes under (or should I say North).
I guess at first glance it goes against my traditionalist nature, but hey, better another team in the GTA than the GPA (Greater Phoenix Area)
. I’d get used to it.

I SOOOO AGREE !!!
2 teams in the same city is not a good idea in my opinion. One of the 2 teams always suck and is always in the shadow of the other. The rivalry is not as good as between 2 different cities.
